On April 29, 2022, we recognized those individuals that just shine. Lipscomb University and Academy celebrated faculty and staff accomplishments with a joint Night of Lights dinner. Individuals who have impacted students or their faculty/staff colleagues during the 2021-22 academic year were honored in the presence of their peers.
Each year, we bid farewell to faculty and staff members that have dedicated their professional careers to Lipscomb Academy. The celebration is bittersweet for the academy as we honor our retirees. Their dedication humbles and inspires us, and we are thankful for their service and their contributions to our students, faculty, and staff.
On March 30, 2022, the Shinn Center was filled with over 300 people honoring the significance of the six 2022 Mustang Alumni Awards recipients. The Mustang Alumni Award is the highest honor given to a former student who embodies the mission and principles of Lipscomb’s 131-year history. The Mustang Alumni Awards honor graduates who have made a lasting impact on this institution, in their career fields, and through service to others. For 2022, a Lipscomb retiree was included in the honor.
In a rare event last Wednesday, February 9, 2022, a crowd of nearly 100 community members and court officials listened in anticipation as the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals heard oral arguments in Collins Alumni Auditorium on Lipscomb University’s campus. The Lipscomb community was invited to witness Tennessee’s judicial process firsthand and experience three real cases and arguments as they were presented before the court.
Lipscomb Academy’s Black Student Union welcomed Dr. Mikki Allen, Tennessee State University (TSU) athletic director, for a special lunch with students, faculty, and staff. Allen, a former San Francisco 49ers professional athlete and University of Tennessee football player, encouraged students to pursue a vocation in a field they love – advice he took to heart, seek a purposeful life, and focus on self-actualization to become the best version of themselves.

While positions left vacant by retirees are replaceable, the enduring impact and meaningful relationships are not.

Seven years ago, God gave the Busler family a vision that included adoption and special needs. That vision and God’s continued help and guidance took the family on an emotional, spiritual, and geographical journey to Armenia to ultimately adopt one child and begin the process for a second.

An internal dedication at the lower school was held to give glory and honor to God for the completion of the space and celebrate the families that made the new wing a reality. The largest capital project in the history of Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University, the Stephens and Griffith families donated $16.5 million towards building the 22,000-square-foot addition at the lower school which includes the new Solly School.
