Randy and Carolyn Wright bestow landmark $1 million fine arts endowment gift to Lipscomb Academy

The Wright family, current grandparents of Lipscomb Academy students and parents of academy and Lipscomb University graduates, has generously made a transformational difference with their $1 million fine arts endowment gift. This landmark donation reflects their deep commitment to the academy and the fine arts program. Their gift enhances both their grandchildren’s current experiences and those of future generations by vastly expanding sustainable access to artistic opportunities.

“Carolyn and Randy paid us the greatest honor when they first entrusted us with their children. They have always been supportive and encouraging, and now this gift will bless generations to come in the same way so many sacrificed in the past to make the Lipscomb of today possible. We have always been about continuous improvement, and as we seek to take our entire school to the next level, this ensures the Arts will continue to be a priority,” stated Robert King, Lipscomb Academy director of fine arts.

Passionately engaged and profoundly committed to fine arts, the Wrights desired to highlight artistic benefits as their grandchildren actively participate in chorus, theater, orchestra, and other programs at the academy. By supporting the arts, the Wrights aim to ensure that students discover creative potential, boost confidence in their abilities, learn to collaborate, take ownership for their growth, and develop accountability in both their artistic and personal endeavors.

“Our gift is intended to significantly enhance the fine arts programs and foster an environment that inspires individuals to support and align with efforts to maintain a Commitment to Excellence at Lipscomb Academy,” stated Randy Wright.

Furthermore, the momentum generated by the gift led to the establishment of the Friends of the Arts initiative. This new parent-driven group fosters community engagement and ensures the arts continue to thrive at Lipscomb Academy, as well as inspires future generations to appreciate and contribute to the arts.

“It is our prayer that the endowment spurs a grassroots effort and becomes a springboard for remarkable future fine arts endeavors, including the development of a performing arts facility,” continued Wright.

With the intention to motivate and inspire others to give to the academy, this unprecedented donation has become a catalyst within the Lipscomb Academy community. Since the Wright Family Foundation announced its gift, two more families have pledged to create and launch two separate endowment programs, supporting the passions important to these individual families. Though these new endowments are not specifically connected to the arts, they further exemplify the spirit of giving and dedication to nurturing a comprehensive educational environment.

“To me, the Wrights are the great multipliers. They are extremely generous, and they especially love when a gift inspires generosity in others. Remarkably, this gift has already proven to inspire others in many ways,” Brad Schultz, Lipscomb Academy head of school.
