Lipscomb Academy Appoints Former Professional Heptathlon Athlete As Head Girls’ Track and Field Coach
Current co-director of human performance Anna Bowers was named Lipscomb Academy head girls’ track and field coach effective January 19, 2022. Bowers has more than 10 years of high school, Division 1, and private sector coaching experience, including assistant track and field coach at Lipscomb Academy, Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, Harpeth Hall School, and the Ensworth School.
"Coach Bowers has been an asset to both Lipscomb Academy’s strength and conditioning program for nearly three years and our track and field team for the past two years. As a former heptathlete, her expertise vastly expands on the continued development of the girls’ track and field program previously led by Coach Todd Cunningham,” stated Michelle York, associate head of school for athletics. “Coach Bowers embraces transformational coaching and models the Christian character she expects from her student-athletes. She will be an asset to the program.”
While a student at Lipscomb University, Bowers was a scholarship basketball player and member of the track and field team. Currently, she still holds Lipscomb University records in both sports, including women’s 200 meters and 100-meter relay.
"I am passionate about Jesus and helping student-athletes discover His character and beauty through sports,” stated Bowers. “I am excited about the process of building championship teams with the talent at Lipscomb Academy.”
Bowers competed professionally in the heptathlon under the leadership of former Olympic Decathlete Gary Kinder. During her training for the heptathlon, she developed a deep appreciation for track and field and credits her coach for the knowledge and invaluable experience of high-level training.
