Lipscomb Academy Social Studies Teacher Scott Broadway Accepted into the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program

Lipscomb Academy is proud to announce that seventh-grade social studies teacher Scott Broadway has been selected for the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Award for the 2025-26 cycle from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. He is one of the approximately 400 master teachers and administrators who participate each year in the prestigious program, which requires demonstrated global experience and a proven ability to advance the skills of teachers internationally. Broadway is the first Lipscomb Academy teacher to receive this honor since the Fulbright Program was established.

“I have four daughters and lots of students, and it is important to me to model stewardship of the gifts God has given me and to be invested in the world outside of our comfort zone,” said Broadway. “I want my children to be inspired, and I want them to pursue hard things with courage and faith.”

“We are incredibly proud of Scott for being selected as a Fulbright Teacher. His passion for global education and his commitment to inspiring young minds truly exemplify the values of our community,” stated Dr. Crystal Hastings, head of Lipscomb Academy middle school. “This prestigious honor is a testament to his dedication to the teaching profession, and we give thanks to God for the gifts he brings to our students and our mission. We can hardly wait to see how his experiences will enrich our classrooms and broaden the horizons of our students.”

After an extensive application process in February, Broadway was notified in August of his selection. To prepare for his assignment abroad, he will complete an online, college-level course, participate in training, and attend a weekend seminar in Washington, D.C., with a cohort of fellow Fulbright Teachers. While participants cannot choose their specific placement, Broadway was allowed to indicate preferences including Asia, Europe, and N. Africa. His host country will be announced in December, after which he will spend three to four weeks teaching in a global classroom.

Dr. Brad Schultz, Lipscomb Academy head of school, shared, “We are fortunate to work so closely with Scott and recognize the incredible gift he is to our students. We are thrilled for the global school that will have the privilege of including him in its program.”

Broadway hopes to receive a placement that connects directly to the subject he teaches at Lipscomb Academy allowing him to bring a deeper perspective back to his students. “I want to challenge my students to take Paul’s words seriously and be ambassadors for Christ,” he explained. “Go out into the world, explore, teach, and share Christ.”

A lifelong educator and missionary, Broadway has combined his passion for teaching with his calling to be an ambassador for Christ. Early in his career, he taught in Kyiv, Ukraine, during the nation’s first year of independence from the Soviet Union. In addition to teaching in the public school system, he partnered with local churches to develop leaders and share the gospel, a formative experience that confirmed his desire to serve in the mission field.

Recognizing the importance of cultural understanding in ministry, Broadway pursued international law at Pepperdine University completing part of his studies in London, England. While in London, he worked with an international firm that helped form transnational corporations to support the development of the former Soviet Republics.

His global service has continued throughout his career. Among other projects, Broadway served with a team of educators to Malawi, Africa, where they provided training for local teachers who worked with children in an orphanage.

Through these experiences, Broadway has continually sought to live out the apostle Paul’s call to be a representative of God’s kingdom on earth by educating, serving, and reconciling others to God through his work.
