Veteran athletic administrator and coach Stefine “Jake” House has been appointed Lipscomb Academy athletic director, Head of School Brad Schultz announced today. House, assistant athletic director and volleyball head varsity coach at Lipscomb Academy, has served as interim athletic director since May.
"Coach House’s experience gives her a unique knowledge and understanding of athletics from the perspective of a player, coach and administrator,” said Schultz. “For Coach House, athletics is more than winning. Rather, it is an avenue to impact and transform lives for Christ and an opportunity to teach life lessons that come through participation in sports - principles upon which the Mustang athletics program is built and will continue to thrive and grow under her leadership.”
As interim athletic director, House was instrumental in launching athletic strategies and tactics for Lipscomb Academy’s Next Level strategic plan, as well as overseeing renovation projects benefiting student-athletes through the improvement of athletic facilities. This summer, Coach House led a new initiative to integrate athletic training, nutrition, and strength and conditioning to better serve student-athletes in a cohesive manner. This year, she has emphasized ensuring the emotional needs of student-athletes are met by providing coaches training on balancing academic requirements with athletic obligations and the tools to identify student-athletes in need.
"I believe at Lipscomb Academy we are called to prepare our student-athletes for whatever challenge is ahead. Whether it be a test, competition, job interview or other challenge in life, our real purpose is victory with the Lord,” stated House. “Our priority focus will be to prepare student-athletes to be Godly men and women within our walls so that they can shine their light as they venture out to the next chapter of their lives.”
"I am looking forward to serving our coaching staff and programs to allow them to be the best they can be for our student-athletes and community. Our coaches are the ones in the trenches daily with our student-athletes, and I want them to feel supported, trusted, empowered, and loved by our department staff,” continued House. “Additionally, I am looking forward to working with the athletics department personnel. They pour themselves into their work and invest daily in our coaches, student-athletes, families, and community. Being a part of this community is extra special for me.”
Since 2016, House has served as an assistant athletic director at the academy. In this role, she was instrumental in developing, coordinating, and directing the first strength and conditioning program for female athletes and built the foundation of the current strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes. In addition, she has served as a spiritual formation director for several of our athletic teams and supported student-athletes by monitoring academic performance in the classroom while collaborating to create and carry out the athletic-academic eligibility policy during the 2021-22 academic year.
House has been the head volleyball coach at Lipscomb Academy since 2013. During her tenure as head coach, the team has reached the postseason each year. Awarded 2015 District Coach of the Year, she coached the team to win the regular district season and district tournament in that year, the first time this feat was achieved since 2004. Formerly, she served as a graduate assistant coach under Lipscomb University Volleyball Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal.
A veteran on the court, House is well known in national volleyball circles and has been inducted into the ASUN Conference, Lipscomb University, and Kansas Volleyball Association halls of fame and many of her collegiate program and conference records still stand. Additionally, she is one of only 14 collegiate players in ASUN history to be named to the All-Conference First Team three times and one of just three to earn four All-Tournament Team selections. While an undergraduate student at Lipscomb University, House received many recognitions for her athleticism including twice being named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American (2010, 2009), AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year (2007), ASUN Conference Player of the the Year (2010), ASUN Freshman of the Year (2007), two-time ASUN Tournament Most Valuable Player (2009, 2007), and Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year (2007). She was also a member of three Lipscomb University ASUN All-Conference championship title squads (2010, 2009, 2008).
A native of Kansas, House received a Bachelor of Science in fashion merchandising and a Master of Education with a math specialization from Lipscomb University. She has taught high school mathematics at Lipscomb Academy since 2013 and is currently teaching one course of honors geometry for the 2022-23 academic year.
She and her husband, Eric, have two daughters, Kollynns and Josie, both enrolled in Lipscomb Academy’s SEED School. House begins her new role as athletic director over 24 sports teams effective Sept. 1.
